brief

Poilâne is the internationally renowned, family-owned, artisanal bakery that has been a staple in France since 1932. I was brought on to continue the work of a previous agency, whom had failed to fully grasp the company’s rich history, as well as their digital needs in a rapidly modernizing world.

The work from the previous agency was a tangled mess of conflicting design systems and user journeys, so my first step was to create a comprehensive site map. After having operated with only in-store purchasing for almost 100 years, Poilâne wanted to expand their offerings by having online ordering. This had to be taken into account when creating the three possible users; new clients that have never been to Poilâne, those who want to go to a specific bakery location, and those who want to order online.

After creating such a complicated user journey, the next step was stripping down the previous designs and streamlining them to their base components in order to allow scaling for the already enormous number of products and their corresponding pages. Poilâne already possessed a rustic and stunning color palette and plethora of photography, and I ensured that both would shine in every pixel– even down to the new iconography I created to match their existing imagery of their grains.
